The Azimganj Serai, a 16th-century Mughal-era structure, is currently undergoing conservation work to restore it to its former grandeur. Located in Sunder Nagar, Nizamuddin, near the Delhi Zoo and Sunder Nursery, this monument had been neglected for decades, resulting in significant deterioration of its architectural features like chambers, arches, and masonry walls. The Delhi government has taken on the responsibility of reviving this historic site through its Department of Archaeology. The restoration project aims to use traditional materials and craftsmanship to ensure the monument's preservation in its authentic form. The goal is to bring back its cultural and architectural significance, which had been lost due to a lack of maintenance and the severing of its historical connectivity. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and officials recently reviewed the progress of the work. Sisodia emphasized the importance of preserving such historically significant buildings, noting that once the project is completed, the Azimganj Serai will not only serve as a major tourist attraction but also educate visitors about Delhi's rich heritage. The project highlights the broader efforts by the Delhi government to conserve and beautify historical monuments, ensuring they are preserved for future generations while bringing awareness to the city's ancient history.
