The Saint’s Journey: From Sabzwar to Narhar Sharif Born in 1213 AD (590 Hijri) to Hazrat Shams Tabrizi and Hazrat Shams Sabzwari, the saint’s original name was Alauddin Muhammad. He was later changed to Syed Ahmad by his father after a dream in Tabriz. Hazrat Hajib Shakarbar exhibited signs of spiritual brilliance from a young age, earning the title of Zinda Pir (the Living Saint). His remarkable piety was showcased when, at 14, he prayed for a poor old woman in Sabzwar, resulting in a miraculous rain of sugar. This event earned him the celebrated title of Shakarbar. In 1235 AD, while on pilgrimage to Makkah, he served as the gatekeeper of the Grand Mosque, adopting the title of Hajib-i-Ka'aba. Upon his return to Sabzwar, he was joyously hailed as Hajib, a name that became inseparable from his earlier title, creating the legendary identity of Hajib Shakarbar. In 1302 AD, Hazrat Hajib Shakarbar arrived in Narhar on a mission to spread peace and teachings of Islam. However, conflict ensued with the local Raja. Although the saint’s forces triumphed initially, the Raja launched a surprise attack three nights later, martyring Hazrat Hajib Shakarbar while he was in sujood (prostration) during late-night prayers. His devoted followers avenged his martyrdom, defeating the Raja and renaming the town Narhar Sharif in his honor.
