In the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, the Dargah of Mubarak Khan Shaheed is playing an active role in establishing this connection among various faiths. Said to be around a thousand years old, the Dargah holds great significance as it welcomes people of all faiths to seek oneness with God. It is believed that the great Hindi poet Munshi Premchand used to visit this Dargah and it has also inspired his popular work, ‘Eidgah’. The holy site sees a huge rush of devotees on Thursdays and during the Urs of the saint which is organised on the 26th, 27th and 28th of the Shawwal month of the Islamic calendar that coincides with the Gregorian month of October. By giving out loud the message of peace and harmony, these Dargahs of Sufi Saints have been long-acting as a symbol of communal harmony. Urs-e-Pak is celebrated on 26th, 27th and 28th of Shawwal month, i.e. the moon of Eid. A fair is held in which people of every religion participate. Hazrat Mubarak Khan Shaheed is counted among the great Auliya-e-Kiram of Purvanchal. Even today this dargah enjoys a high status. Adjacent to the dargah is a mosque, Idgah, madrasa and the tombs of many saints.
