Jhulta Minar

Jhulta Minar

Also known as Shaking Minarets, they are within the Sidhi Basir Mosque built in 1452 AD. The Minars are three storeys high with carved balconies. These structures have left the best architects and pioneering design engineers intrigued and in unresolved wonder because when one minrate is shaken other begins to vibrate.

Jhulta Minara (Sidhi Basir Mosque),is perhaps the most ionic monument ,located in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. It is believed to have been constructed either by Sidhi Basir , a slave of Sultan Ahmed Shah or by Malik Sarang , a noble in court of Mahmud Begada another Sultan of Gujarat . It has been dated to 1452 , although the style and material of the minarets point close of Mahmud Begda's region (1511)or later. The body of the building was destroyed in 1753 during the wars between Marathas and the Khan of Sultanate, only two minarets and the arched central gateway connecting them remain. Each Minaret is about 21 meters high and 3 stories tall. They have delicately carved balconies, and staircase running through them. It was observed in the 19th-century that a gently shaking of either minaret resulted in the other minaret to also vibrate after a few seconds. However , the connecting passage between them remains free of the effect.
