Standing as a silent witness to the passage of time, Lodhi Fort, also known as Purana Qila, was built over 500 years ago during the reign of Sultan Sikandar Khan Lodi. Once a symbol of strategic and architectural prowess, this fort has withstood the rise and fall of empires. It flourished under the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, whose forces maintained its glory, and later under British rule. Lodhi Fort was not just a military stronghold but a symbol of power for the rulers of its time. Though it has seen better days, the fort's remaining structures still inspire awe. It is a symbol of Ludhiana’s connection to a vibrant past, from the Lodi dynasty to the reign of Ranjit Singh. Its massive walls, gates, and defensive bastions bear witness to battles fought, alliances formed, and peace maintained in this region of Punjab. However, as the tides of history shifted, the fort fell into disrepair, its mighty walls succumbing to neglect. In December 2013, it was declared a state-protected monument, sparking renewed efforts to preserve this once-majestic site.The fort's grandeur still echoes in its sprawling design, though time has worn down many of its features. Its stone walls, once formidable and defiant, now offer a glimpse into the rich past of Ludhiana. While the fort may not possess the decorative intricacies of other Mughal structures, its raw strength and historical significance captivate the imagination of every visitor who steps inside its gates. What was once the pride of Ludhiana, the Lodhi Fort is now a forgotten relic, surrounded by modern developments and struggling to preserve its essence. Nonetheless, it continues to attract those intrigued by history, offering a poignant glimpse into the region's glorious past and the architectural grandeur that once defined it.
