The Namazgah Mosque, one of the remaining mosques, is located on a hill in Bicholim. The main part of the structure is square-shaped with arched doorways and a dome topped with a crescent and a star. This box-like construction has long balconies similar to the Portuguese balcão by either side of its entrance. The likeness to the Portuguese balcão could be speculation. It may be that these balcões (plural of balcão) were Portuguese-influenced later additions. The courtyard is lined with pillars that have crescents upon them. There is a raised platform next to the main structure with steps leading up to it. The imam uses this to recite the Quran and khutbah (sermon preaching). The azan (call for namaaz) is given from here too.
Namazgah is another beautiful mosque in Goa built by Prince Akbar II, son of Mudhal Emperor Aurangzeb, in 1863 It is located on a hill in Bicholim, Goa, amidst picturesque natural scenery
The architecture of this mosque stands unique from other conventional mosques, with etymological Persian roots, granite flooring, and an open-air prayer area. Towards its northwest side, a high wall flanked with two domed-shaped pillars at each end and a small open pulpit on the central part. The dome of the structure is a clear symbol of intricate Muslim architecture. The place serves as a place of worship and allows for reading namaz, offering prayer, and idgah.
