Palayam Juma Masjid is the most significant mosque in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. located at Palayam, it stands alongside a temple and a Christian church, symbolizing the communal harmony of Keralites. The history of the Palayam Mosque dates back to 1813 AD, when the British Indian Second Regiment was stationed here. It was then constructed as a small mosque (Pattalappalli), with an open place for Eid prayers. Slowly the mosque was reconstructed by the agents and people there. In 1960 businessmen and government officials took up its renovation and constructed the mosque that stand today. Renovated Masjid inaugurated in 1967 by then President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain.
