The Subedar of this area Khalilur Rahman used to stay here with the entire army. It was built keeping in mind the convenience of offering prayers. The mosque is not very big. The mosque made of red lime is unique in its beauty. According to historians, the construction of this mosque is about three hundred years old. Earlier, travelers also used to stay in the inn. Rapti river also flowed nearby. Therefore, the importance of this mosque is found in history. It was built along with Jama Masjid Urdu Bazaar. When the team of the Archaeological Department inspected it many years ago, it found that Basantpur Sarai is 400 years old, according to which the age of this mosque is more than 300 years. INTACH had also made a plan for the conservation of Basantpur Sarai and the mosque. But the plan did not take off. Basantpur Sarai is spread over about three acres and has 67 rooms. Basantpur Shahi Mosque is situated here. It is from the Mughal period and Baba Nasir Ali Shah's tomb is also here. The mosque is registered in the Sunni Waqf Board. There are Shahi mosques in Takia Kavaldah and Kaudiram of the city. Apart from this, there is also Sangi Masjid from the Mughal period. It is situated at Basantpur crossroads.
