The Shahi Jami Masjid of Adoni

The Shahi Jami Masjid of Adoni in Andhra was built by Sidi Masud Khan, a Muslim noble of African descent. Sidi Khan was a governor of Sikandar Adil Shah of the Bijapur Sultanate. The construction of the mosque was completed in 1662 C.E.

The Shahi Jamia Masjid is in Adoni, in the Kurnool district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. India. The Masjid is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage. People from all sections of society and religions visit and take pictures of this historical premise. It lies in the heart of the town, near the market, a very busy place within the city. This Masjid was built by Siddi Masood Khan, the Governor of Adoni during the regime of Bijapur Sultans. The land was purchased from Mohammed Shahnaz Namia by Masood Khan by giving 77,000. He spent the total amount of 2,000,000 dinars to complete the construction of the Masjid. The architects for this Masjid were Iranian engineers headed by Malli Sandal. The area of this Masjid is equal to the Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. On the front side of the Masjid, 15 black slabs have verses of the Quran and narrations of Hadith.
