Tomb of Khan Shahid, also known as Muhammad Khan, son of Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Balban, is an important but lesser-known historical site located in the Mehrauli Archaeological Park in Delhi. Khan Shahid was the eldest son of Sultan Balban, one of the most powerful rulers of the Mamluk Dynasty (Slave Dynasty), which ruled the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century. Historical Background: Khan Shahid was a valiant prince and military commander who fought bravely against the Mongol invaders during the reign of his father. Unfortunately, he was killed in battle while defending the Delhi Sultanate from Mongol attacks. His title "Khan Shahid" literally translates to "Martyr Khan" due to his death in battle. Sultan Balban was deeply affected by the death of his son, and Khan Shahid’s death marked a personal tragedy that greatly impacted the aging sultan.
